Why Old Lantern?

When my husband and I started discussing the idea of this small business we knew we had to come up with what we thought would be the PERFECT name. The name had to be something that was unique and easy to remember. We had to both love it. We didn't want to settle for a name and we knew that it had to "feel" right. We tossed the idea of having a play on words, using our last name, something with the word rustic on it... We kept going back and forth. Chris suggested something that would suggest an "americana style." So then we started thinking about all things Americana. For some reason "one if by land, two if by sea" came to mind so I suggested lantern. He loved it more than I did - I honestly wasn't sure ,but I was just happy that he thought I had a good idea! Ha! We then started thinking about good adjectives to go along with lantern. Maybe a color (I think patina was a contender but I thought it was too wordy)?A synonym for rustic? We agreed on Old. I then wanted to see if there was a bible verse that would go along with the name and I found Psalm 119:105. We both knew that the name Old Lantern with Psalm 119:105 was the PERFECT fit. We wanted to keep our business name vague enough with 'handcrafted goods' because we wanted to keep our future options open. We didn't know if wood was going to be our only medium. We are creative people and love making things. There was a little hesitation with using a bible verse in our logo because we didn't want to scare people away ,but we try to include Jesus into every part of our lives. He has used Old Lantern to grow me personally in ways that I would have never imagined. I know most of you don't know me personally ,but just to give you an idea -- I have dealt with fear/anxiety and depression the majority of my life. Even typing this up and sharing it is a little scary - years ago I wouldn't have even thought of doing it. BUT GOD - for reasons unknown to me - wants to use me through Old Lantern. So our hope and prayer is that through our products we can inspire you to love your family and your community well.

Psalm 119:105 - Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
